Pro Tips
When I first started designing, I thought posting my work on Instagram would bring clients.
I’d share my latest flyer or carousel, add a caption, and wait.
But nothing happened. No comments, no messages, no clients.
At first, I thought maybe my designs weren’t good enough. But later I realized the problem wasn’t my skill—it was my approach to getting clients.
If you’ve been showing up but still not landing jobs, here’s why it happens and what you can do to fix it.
1. You’re Not Clear About Who You Serve
Beginners often say, “I design for everyone.” But when you talk to everyone, you reach no one.
✅ Fix: Pick a simple target like:
Small business owners
Food vendors
Coaches
Event planners
Speak directly to them in your posts and offers.
2. You’re Just Sharing Work, Not Solutions
Clients don’t care about pretty posts. They care about results.
If your caption only says “Made this in Canva,” you’re not telling them why it matters.
✅ Fix: Write captions like:
“This design helps food vendors attract more customers.”
“A professional flyer makes your event look organized.”
Show the value, not just the design.
3. Your Page Doesn’t Build Trust
Imagine a client clicks on your profile but finds random memes, personal selfies, or no pinned designs. They won’t know if you’re serious.
✅ Fix:
Pin 3 strong designs to the top of your page
Add “I design for [your niche]” in your bio
Use highlights to showcase past work or testimonials
Make your page feel professional, even if you’re new.
4. You Don’t Have a Portfolio Yet
Clients want to see proof before they pay. Without samples, they won’t take the risk.
✅ Fix: Create a mock portfolio:
Redesign for real brands (even if they didn’t hire you)
Bundle 3–5 designs into a PDF or Canva link
Share it whenever you reach out to clients
Your first portfolio doesn’t need clients. It just needs creativity.
5. You’re Not Asking for the Sale
Sometimes beginners just post and hope clients will magically appear. But business doesn’t work like that.
✅ Fix: Add clear CTAs:
“Send me a DM to design yours.”
“Message me today and let’s get started.”
“Click the link in bio to hire me.”
If you don’t ask, you won’t get.
✅ Final Words
Not getting clients doesn’t mean you’re not talented. It means you need to adjust how you show up.
Be clear about who you serve, show the value in your work, build trust, create a simple portfolio, and most importantly — ask for the sale.
Do this consistently and the silence will turn into messages, payments, and opportunities.
